Virginia to Create Cabinet-Level Secretary of Labor

Beginning July 1, the Virginia Governor’s Cabinet will include a new position: Secretary of Labor.

Pursuant to legislation passed by the General Assembly during its 2021 session, the Secretary will have direct oversight of three state agencies (the Virginia Employment Commission, the Department of Labor and Industry, and the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation) along with a broad portfolio of responsibilities related to workforce development in the Commonwealth. The enabling legislation for the Secretary of Labor can be found here.
